November 2017 ~ St. Sebastian's by-the-Sea Newsletter

†Greetings from Rev. Garry Edwards
Alas, the weather is changing, and the feeling of autumn is in the air. Lisa and I are looking forward to our first “winter” here in Melbourne Beach . And extend a special welcome to our “Snow Birds” who will be arriving soon and God’s grace to you on your journey back.

It is disappointing we were not able to have our pumpkin patch this year. Next year will surely be bigger and better.

Save the date: February 17
th, 2018. I am looking forward to sharing the cultural sounds, and delicious food of Barbados at our “Taste of Barbados” event here at St. Sebastian’s.

Go forth and tell the wonderful happenings at St. Sebastian’s by-the-Sea.

Peace & Blessings,

Father Garry †

†Kairos Weekend
The next Kairos weekend, number 9, will be held November 16 – 19 at the Central Florida Reception Center. The team for this weekend is forming and meetings have already begun. The change this brings to those isolated in prison is dependable and inspiring. Your help is needed to support this weekend. There are three ways you can contribute. First, sign up to pray for the team and the participants. We will have a prayer chain in one half hour increments. Secondly, buy cookies. There will be 500 packages taken into the prison for this weekend. Finally, your financial support is needed. It costs $6,000 - $7,000 for each weekend. This funding is raised by the team and area churches. Your prayerful consideration of support is greatly appreciated.

Walt Koenig and Gary Conner can answer any questions and graciously accept your support. The members of our parish have generously and consistently supported the Kairos prison ministry. Thank you so much for your consideration.

†Thank You Veterans!
Veterans Day highlights our country’s quest for peace, justice and freedom throughout the world. Followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, pray for unity among all nations and for the day when “nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore” (Isaiah 2:4, NIV).

On November 11, 1918, America and her allies signed a truce with German leaders, ending World War I. In 1919, President Wilson decided the United States should remember with gratitude the end of that war and honor military members by marking Armistice Day, or “truce” day. In 1954, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day, honoring veterans of every era.
